2018, a beautiful year indeed. As I picked one photo out of each session (not including seniors/families) I saw some growth, some struggles, and a shot a bunch of incredibly beautiful people. Some found me last minute, some messaged me before they even got engaged, most stumbled upon my work on Instagram. I heard “we have to have you” many times. I had couples move their date to a date I was available. I turned down a lot of weddings for the coming year as I’m about fully booked. I’ve seen myself grow but many times I feel incapable. I didn’t get feedback from some brides. Maybe they got busy, maybe they don’t think it matters to vendors. I’ll never know but that part has been hard this year. At times I was weary of the miles I put on. I drove back and forth from Butte to Absarokee almost every single weekend this summer. Rarely I was caught up on editing emails and life. I’ve watched my editing style change, my posing get better, built a new website. Photography has taken me to many new places around our state. Hungry Horse reservoir, the Highlands, Lone Mountain Ranch, Pony, Helena, and Riding Mountain National Park in Canada. I got to stay home. Home with my sweet daughter Montana. This amazing job allows me to pay our bills, put food on our table, and be at home with Tana whenever I wasn’t shooting. It’s allowed me to come out of my introverted shell (a little) and laugh and make friends. To act like a fool behind a camera. To meet couples and document love.
These aren’t the best of the best of the year. Not necessarily my favorite from each shoot. I just picked a photo that stood out to me or had a story to me. I’ve included a little backstory above a few of the photos.
I just want to thank everyone who reads my blog, interacts with me on social media, tells others about me, hires me. You guys bring much joy to my life with all the wild hair, sweet embraces, mountain views, dirt roads, and smiles I get to document. I leave every meeting, shoot, wedding filled to the brim with excitement and love. Thank you. Here’s to a kickass 2019!
We tried going to the boiling river. Got to the bank and decided against it as it was well below zero. But meeting this babe finally was amazing. The truth behind this photo…my cousin throwing snow 😜
I don’t even know what to say about this shoot. One of the most amazing times I’ve had with an incredible team. So awesome to be in Rocky Mountain Bride magazine. And these two were such a joy to photograph. Constant laughter, good looks (obvi), and when they get married I hope I get to shoot with them again! My first real legit elopement. Just us three. Katalin Green made this bouquet in 10 minutes after I ran into her at breakfast in Bozeman. We shot around Lone Mountain Ranch, they read vows on a little private trail, and it was incredible.
And so the journey with Adria and Connor began. The day he proposed in front of their people in the middle of the road in Butte. I don’t now many people in Butte but this incredible couple are some my favorites. Featured on She Said Yes on Instagram. Into the Pines Workshop was amazing. All three couples killed it and here’s. a few of my favorites! My sister Jade + her boyfriend. We stopped at this little old ladies house who had all these poppies. She said we could take photos and pick as many as we wanted. And Trey being the sweetheart he is did just that. Angie + Tyler won a giveaway I did. I shot their photos at a lake outside Butte and then they hired me for their wedding. 😍 I love this photo because she said she used to not care for her smile and I just love this photo and the way he makes her smile. Drove over to Elliston for this engagement. Views for days. Then I drove up to a little campground, pitched a tent and stayed the night. Slept like a baby. As we drove back down the mountain Alex spotted this little creek. He had an idea and we made it work. It was about high noon here so it might not be a perfect shot but I still love it. I second shot this wedding for MKate Photography in Boulder. Such a fun experience and Melissa (the photographer) is the best! Mariah altered this dress and made that belt.
Another wedding I second shot for MKate Photography.
Montana Fair This wedding is one of my all time favorites. I remember Jerrod waiting for Karli to arrive for the first look and he said “I’m going to be emotional” and I said something stupid like “oh don’t be” like an idiot. What I meant is let it out. I say stupid things.
They ran off the dock butt naked, put on swimmer and jumped again. Then I made them stand their and freeze but hot damn. Oh boy these two. They flew in from Tennessee for an anniversary trip around GNP. Found me on Instagram and I drove up for an epic session. They broke out their hammock and it took awhile to figure out how to get situated. I was dying and laughed so so hard the entire shoot. Then I slept in the truck before the drive home the next morning.
Nancy’s grandma made a huge trip for this wedding. It was very important to Nancy and this is moments after the ceremony. I love grandparents at weddings. Woke up at 4am to leave Chico to drive to Columbus. Slept in my truck till my sister joined me and we headed to Miles City. Jade about ran us out of fuel big time.Private vows on forest service, a couple hikers walked by Bae Ingrid and a bouquet I made first mentor session and these two modeledI told them to have a snowball fight, but not to hit faces. Jon either has great aim or bad aim I shot Caitlin + Ryan’s wedding 5 years ago, they had me do an in home session and it was amazing! When you try breaking up the wrestling match The Connor Adria obsession continues with their wedding. maybe 50% of this shoot will be jumping photos. Hanna brought me coffee all the way from Billings. We watched the snow roll in and she about broke a limb on iceAfter a cancelled engagement I asked my mom and dad to let me take a few photos. Probably around 1 degree. We missed the sunset. But these are my ever supporting, beautiful parents. Who homeschooled us, provided always for us, and who watch Tana often while I work. My favorite people and I’m glad to have spent the last minutes of light in 2018 with them. 🖤
Clearly my Instagram followers love Adria and Connor as much as I do. What a freaking rad year.
