When we started talking about Airika + Gabe’s engagement session, many ideas were brought up. Then one day I get a message that Airika found her grandparents matching snowmobile suits from the 80’s. Needless to say that’s what we went with and it was the best idea ever! We shared back and forth about just how cheesy we could make it, and of course the Masterminds engagement session scene came to mind. I think we nailed it at the end of the shoot!
We stuck around Butte and headed to the hills! Airika’s green velvet dress + Gabe’s classy attire + all the pine trees and snow seriously was a dream. We found some dormant aspens and made magic with smoke bombs. Another one of Airika’s amazing ideas. They froze their feet off in the deep snow before we made our way back closer to town. One more outfit change with views of the mountains, cuddles in the snow, and more emptying snow out of boots. They picked out a little hill and suited up. Hats, suspender snow pants, coats and boots. At least they wouldn’t be cold anymore! 😂 then they pulled out a tube from their car and we walked up the hill. This is the time Masterminds inspiration came to life. So bad it’s so good. Snowball fights, tubing down the hill, snow angels, all the fun stuff.
I decided against muck boots for this shoot and highly regretted it. By the time I got home water was flying out of my soaked boots with every step, and a ring of burning flesh where my leg was exposed. It remained purple and tender for about a week, but it was worth it. Besides, if I make my couples run through the snow in short boots I better be able to commit to it as well. This engagement session will always be one of my favorites. Airika and Gabe are so so fun to hang out with and I cannot wait for their June wedding!!
