Awhile back my family went exploring in the mountains, and as we walked around I foraged this bouquet. So I put it on Instagram and asked for someone to come model for me for fun. Ingrid said she would come over to Butte and that she had the perfect red dress. I’d say. So I’m not sure what to call this session, other than Mountains + Red Dress, because that’s all it is. Ingrid arrived in Butte in the early afternoon, and I flat out told her I have no idea on where to go. It had snowed the day before, and so my fall colored bouquet vision shifted a little. I said we could either go around town and get urban stuff or head to the mountains. So we grabbed a coffee and headed up to the Butte Highlands.
Once at the top, we got out and she braved the cold in this amazing dress. The last few yellow aspen leaves brought out the yellow in the bouquet, and you can’t go wrong with all the other colors the mountains give you. As this was a shoot solely for fun, I played around with double exposures. I’m not very good at them but the more I play with them the more I like them.
We continued driving down the other side of the mountain to the amazing rock formations. She just climbed right up on them, backed up in a yellow bush, and killed the whole shoot. I think all photographers need spontaneous non stressful no expectation shoots sometimes. And this was perfect for me! Plus I’m kinda proud of this bouquet and anyone who knows me knows I love flowers. This bouquet is hanging on my wall above my desk as I’m writing this. So photographers who feel burnt out…get out and shoot for yourself, it really helps with inspiration and creativity!
